Sue Tonks has been a Trainer and Presenter for 19 years. Sue started her career as a Management Trainee with British Road Services. She was the first female Management Trainee for BRS in the country. From there she ran her first BRS Branch in Stockport. She moved to Roadline (the parcel delivery company) to take up a position in sales. Sue was later headhunted by Group 4 Securitas to set up their security overnight parcels service.
During these years she paid for herself to go on a range of Dale Carnegie training programmes. She became a well known Public Speaker.
My delivery style, the use of participation and my energetic presentation all come from my Dale Carnegie background. I have much to thank the organisation for.
Following several years working with Dale Carnegie, Sue moved to the newly established Training Enterprise Council (ELTEC) as Director of Lifetime Training. This was a valuable time for Sue as she learned the importance of measurable training results, return on investment and value for money.
Following this, Sue was appointed Training Manager for the major UK tour operator Airtours. Sue trained and developed a wide range of staff from Customer Services to Airline Pilots and Cabin Crew. Here Sue developed the skills of ensuring practical application in the workplace, measuring results and return on investment. Sue says:
This was a fabulous time where I was involved in wider projects such as introducing the first travel NVQs, as well as working across the whole Tour Operator field of Cruises, Airlines, Camping and Travel Agency.
Before starting her own training company in 1999, Sue worked with Manchester TEC. She says:
Here I worked with companies progressing towards Investors in People (IIP) awards. The importance of Leadership and Management Training, together with the importance of effective evaluation and long-term return on investment enabled me to ensure that all my training programmes in the future would offer my customers a variety of evaluation methods, measurable results in the workplace and guaranteed return on their training investment. I have never let them down!
Sue founded Synergy Consulting and Training in 1999, which became a Limited Company in 2002. Since them Sue has worked with such clients as:
- Co-Op Pharmacy Group
- Eurest Compass Group
- Manchester United
- Leighs Paints
- Bolton Wanderers FC
Sue has recently been nominated as a finalist for Bolton Woman of the year 2010.
